Your billings home Inspector November

November is considered “Turkey Month” for most of us, but when you consider the last of your home maintenance before winter, your billings home inspector says make those final fall home preparations for winter … and do them before the snow starts falling in a heavy way.

We understand that home maintenance is a never ending task and not all of us have a constant gardener or year-round handy-man. However, for all of you Do-It-Yourselfers, your Billings Home Inspector says get ready before winter and it will save you later.

Montana’s Home Inspection Services Inc. team recommends the following for Fall home maintenance:

  • Make sure your kitchen oven fan works before Turkey cooking!
  • Drain outside water lines and hoses, disconnect hoses from house faucets
  • Check weather-stripping for damage and tightness of fit
  • Clean gutters and downspouts
  • Remove window air conditioners for winter
  • Clear any leaves, brush and drying debris from near the house
  • Check roof for any loose or blistered shingles
  • Check exterior vents, louvers, and chimney caps and housings for bird nests, etc.
  • Check weather-stripping for damage and tightness of fit
  • Check all interior joints in ceramic tile, laminated plastic, and similar surfaces
  • Check grouting around tubs, showers, and sinks
  • Check vents, louvers, and chimney caps and housings for bird nests, etc.
  • Check condition of lamp cords, extension cords, and plugs, Replace at first sign of wear or damage
  • Test Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI’s)
